TOURISM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

TOURISM - a great career to opt for with tremendous growth opportunities. World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) forecasts in Tourism Vision 2020 that the international tourist arrivals would reach 1.6 billion by 2020. World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has indicated that travel and tourism in India will grow at the rate of 8.4% per annum. With the advent of CRS and e-ticketing, the focus of the travel industry has shifted from airlines to the tourism industry which offers a variety of exciting career opportunities today.

The latest Travel and Tourism data by Euromonitor International predicts that the number of tourists travelling from India will more than double by 2011. Leading tour operators are preparing to take advantage of this boom in the Indian travel market, as the total number of outbound travellers is set to reach 16.3 million by 2011 . This dramatic rise of 132% over 2006 to 2011 is being driven by rising disposable incomes, more affordable holiday options and the growth of low cost carriers, enabling more Indians to travel abroad. The growing number of Indian tourists is now being more widely recognised and countries across the globe are increasingly trying to attract Indian tourists. A number of countries, including Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland and South Korea, have already opened tourist offices in India to directly target Indians who want to holiday abroad.

It is a known fact that Indian tourists are big spenders and as such are a boost to the Tourism revenues of any country. MBA v/s TBM - A word of Caution

Several institutes and academies claim to offer their own programmes of a few weeks or months and conveniently call it MBA to confuse people who thru' the illusion of an MBA being recognized or accredited by the University ignorantly enrol for these short term programmes. As any MBA qualified graduate is in great demand, the MBA title is used to lure participants towards enrolling for short term diploma courses and the institute benefits by charging exorbitant fees.

On the other hand, IHCTM - the pioneers of Airlines, Travel, Tourism and Air Cargo programmes in India wishes to avoid such misguiding nomenclature and although the 1 year programme which prepares you for more than 5 international qualifications and is recognized worldover for middle management jobs as well as for entrepreneurship prefers to call this unique programme - the only one of it's kind, TBM which stands for TOURISM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT as it very rightly qualifies you for global tourism career opportunities in 12 months. Hence, TBM should be your first priority for a successful career in the management cadre of the rapidly expanding tourism industry
